Summary

AWS partnered with Canva to demonstrate its new Nova AI models in a real-world creative application. Everest was engaged  to deliver a conversational Canva app, which was completed in less than 3 weeks. This allows users to generate and edit images using natural language prompts within Canva. The app was demonstrated live on stage at Canva Create ‘25 in Los Angeles. It  received fantastic feedback!

AWS needed a working product experience to showcase the creative power of its Nova AI models in time for Canva Create ‘25. The solution had to:

Solution

Everest Engineering collaborating closely with AWS and Canva to design and deliver  a chat-based Canva app that uses a chat-based conversational interface to cater to users’ imagery & design needs. Users interact with the app by entering prompts describing the images they wish to create or modify; the app then generates and presents the output within the chat interface.

Users can use this app for generating images from scratch, generating images with colour guidance, generating similar variations of an image, removing the background of an image, replacing the background of an image & replacing elements within an image.

Everest brought full-stack expertise across UX design, prompt engineering, UI, and backend development , delivering an easy-to-use, reliable app that worked smoothly from end to end.

We delivered the app in just 2.5 weeks, while continuously integrating feedback and improvements to ensure a smooth and intuitive user experience.

Partnership and ownership

Worked closely using daily collaboration with Canva and AWS stakeholders , we managed the full delivery , from solution design to release, including deploying the app to Canva’s private marketplace for demo.

Tecnical details

We used Amazon Bedrock + Amazon Nova chat model to generate prompts to pass through to the Amazon Nova Canvas model, which produces images. A REST API that takes care of authentication, transforms incoming requests to be Bedrock compatible, and uses the model to generate text/images.

Results

The app was showcased by the AWS team during the Canva Create ‘25 event in Los Angeles to demonstrate the power of its Nova AI Creative models. The app was well-received by event attendees.

AWS now plans to seek feedback and continue to enhance the app before releasing publicly.
